Portland Pirates 2014-'15 Season

The Coyotes have made its first cuts from training camp by assigning forwards Greg Carey & Eric Selleck & defensemen Justin Hache, Mark Louis, James Melindy, Patrick MacNeil and Evan Oberg to Portland Pirates. Goaltenders Brendan Burke (Portland Winterhawks) and Marek Langhamer (Medicine Hat - WHL) were assigned to their junior clubs.

The ‪Coyotes‬ have made another round of cuts, assigning Alexandre Bolduc, Darian Dziurzynski, Tyler Gaudet, Phil Lane, Jordan Martinook, Mike McKenna, Dylan Reese, Henrik Samuelsson, Brendan Shinnimin and Mark Visentin to the Portland Pirates.

Krys Barch, Matt Kassian and Jamie McBain were released from their PTO’s with the Coyotes. They could be offered a tryout with the Pirates.

Pirates’ toughness stands out in preseason

The Pirates made sure to send a message that they weren’t gonna be pushed around this season as Saturday night’s preseason game against the Monarchs looked more like Game 50 of the regular season than it did an AHL exhibition game.

Pirates win in return to Portland

PORTLAND – It might have been a preseason game, but the Portland Pirates couldn’t have been more excited to be on the ice at the former Cumberland County Civic Center, renamed the Cross Insurance Arena.

Henrik Samuelsson was credited with the game-winning goal and added an assist as the Pirates defeated the Manchester Monarchs, 5-2, Saturday evening, in the first game back at the CIA since losing to the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League’s Eastern Conference quarterfinals on May 2, 2013.

Pirates begin season with a victory

PORTLAND – It has been nearly 18 months since the Portland Pirates last played a regular season game in downtown Portland at the former Cumberland County Civic Center.

They made sure they didn’t disappoint in their return Saturday night as the Pirates scored three times in the third period to win their season-opening game, 3-2, against the Providence Bruins in front of a 5,601 at the Cross Insurance Arena.

Penalty kill lifts Pirates to first road win

It took eight games into the regular season, but the Portland Pirates finally earned their first road victory of the season.

It did not come easy, however.

Brendan Shinnimin and Jordan Martinook each scored a shorthanded goal for the Pirates to hold on for a 4-3 victory over the Worcester Sharks before an announced crowd of 1,592 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.
