Team owner Ken Young got the call over the summer: Would you sell the Norfolk Admirals to the Anaheim Ducks?

"I don't really have any desire to sell the franchise, particularly to them, because they would move it to Southern California," Young told his longtime friend Bob Murray, the Ducks' general manager.

At least this piece seems to have it's head on about current leases and affiliation agreements matter before there would be a Western migration.

Norfolk doesn't have to sell to Anahiem if they want to remain in the market, but Anaheim doesn't have to keep their affiliation in Norfolk once that deal expires. If they have the chance to buy and relocate a different AHL team, they probably will.

The trick, as it's always been is to get a group of five to line up in the same year so the travel benefits would be realized.

you need 4 to move otherwise it's dead, likely for good, the issue is, outside of Norfolk, which franchises are a) up for sale of which as of now are none, and who, outside of the 2  obvious  (Manchester and Worcester, but if Worcester is on the move then DCU and the city are back in play just as they were when the shift and sale to Peoria (now Utica).  it's not going to impact 2015-16 anyway.
