Providence names Kevin Dean head coach

Recommended Posts

Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney didn't have to look very far to find a new head coach for the Providence Bruins.

Forty-seven-year-old former NHL defenseman Kevin Dean -- an assistant under Bruce Cassidy for the last five seasons in Providence -- was named to the top P-Bruins post on Monday.

“Donny offered me the job on Friday and I eagerly accepted. I’m excited, a little daunted, but not really. More excited,’’ said Dean, who agreed to a two-year contract with a team option for a third year.

“It’s a big job. I understand where the Bruins want to get to. All those pieces that will be coming through Providence in the next little while will be important.’’
