I'll pin this so if news comes up about the Sabres we can have one central place to post and chat about Buffalo and it's potential effect on Portland.

Besides Kaleta who is out with a head/neck injury, meaning Mancari isn't coming back if at all now, the Sabres are going to be without Craig Rivet with an upper body injury. If it's more than day-to-day Mike Weber will be on his to Buffalo.

Not good considering Mike Card is still not skating.

I personally find both the Ellis and Card injuries suspicious. Lower Body Injuries are always suspicous cause they are not specific, you think maybe he is just upset about being in Portland? Any why is Card out for so long? I thought it was a simple cut, he cant wear a cage?

Ellis is skating and will be back on Friday.... Dino said it was a lower body injury and I suspect it was a groin tweak, but I can't print it because I can't confirm it, but it has all the signs of a groin. As for Card, he was cut in the face, but I get the suspicion that it might either be concussion related or he might have a broken orbital bone. Again, can't confirm, but it fits the situation.

In either case both should be back in the line by Saturday at the latest.

I'm inclined to agree with the 'attendant on this one... It's odd that a guy who took a puck to roughly the upper row of choppers would be out this long, let alone not be skating during practices in addition...

Speaking of which, has Mike resumed skating with the team yet?

Somebody is getting the call to Buffalo

Lydman is hurt and Rivet is out so....

QUOTE
The defense corps is getting thin for the Buffalo Sabres as Toni Lydman may not be available for Thursday's game in Florida.

Lydman, who was struck by a shot in Monday's loss to Nashville, was unable to take part in practice today in HSBC Arena before the team flew to Fort Lauderdale. Captain Craig Rivet remains questionable with an upper-body ailment suffered Saturday in Montreal.

... and I'd like to see Michael Funk get a chance to play with the parent club... I think he'd greatly benefit from a cup of tea with Buffalo...

Report says Sabres for sale; team issues quick denial

QUOTE
A report that the Buffalo Sabres are discussing a sale of the team was denied Monday by a Sabres minority owner.

"We are not in negotiations to sell the team and as we have stated in the past, we will never entertain discussions to move the team out of Buffalo," said Larry Quinn in an e-mailed statement.

Tom Golisano is the majority owner of the Sabres. He bought the team out of bankruptcy in 2003.

Quinn was responding a report in Western New York Hockey magazine which claimed that talks about selling the team are ongoing, though in an exploratory stage. The report, which cited unnamed sources, said that Canadian businessman Jim Balsillie, the founder of Research in Motion, has been approached.

It also said that the team, if sold, would play part of its season in Hamilton, Ontario.

The report comes on the first day of the NHL Board of Governors meetings in West Palm Beach, Fla. A number of NHL owners are reportedly unhappy with rising costs throughout the league.

Portland also ran w/ the story but if the Sabres are to be put up for sale, whether it's now or down the road, it has nothing to do because the writer out there is not as credible (hence the denial) because of the economic era both the US AND Canada are in should Golisano sell, remember he inherited the debt from the bankrupt Adelphia and the corrupt Rigas family.

The idea of splitting the season between Hamilton and Buffalo is insane. They won't be able to sell that in either city

Ennis, Myers make Canadian junior team
Big news from north of the border: Both of the Sabres' first-round picks last June have been selected to play for Team Canada in the upcoming World Championships that begin Dec. 26 in Ottawa (the 2010-11 tourney, remember, will be at HSBC Arena and Niagara University).

Tyler Myers, the 6-foot-6 defenseman who was selected 12th overall, and center Tyler Ennis, taken 26th with the pick acquired from San Jose in the Brian Campbell trade, were both named to the roster Monday.

"That's great they both made it," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said when told the news after practice. "It just tells you we've got a couple good players coming down the pipeline."

Ennis and Myers both attended the Sabres' prospect camp over the summer at Niagara University and were at training camp in September before being returned to their junior teams in the Western Hockey League. Ennis has 36 points (15-21) in 31 games this season for Medicine Hat while Myers has four goals, 16 assists and is plus-9 through 26 games at Kelowna.

The Canadian team also includes Oshawa winger John Tavares, the consensus top North American prospect in next year's draft and the nephew of the Bandits star of the same name, and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo of the Niagara Ice Dogs, the fourth overall choice last year by the St. Louis Blues. Pietrangelo played eight games for St. Louis this season before being returned to junior and his final NHL appearance saw him log 19 1/2 minutes of ice time Nov. 12 against the Sabres in HSBC Arena.

Other notes.... Rivet is out for at least two weeks so one has to wonder if Mike Weber or Chris Butler will be recalled. Gerbe was hurt in the game against New Jersey, but should be alright to play on Wednesday. Kaleta is getting close to returning, he's maybe a week away so Gerbe could be a week away from returning. Connelly is still out....How long? Who knows...just hope he's wearing a helmet all the time.

I don`t think the helmet will be enough to keep him from getting hurt !!!!!! He needs to be in a full body cast !!!!!

Dan Paille hurt his foot in the game against the Leafs. Not sure if he's returned.

Gerbe is a healthy scratch as well... confused-1.gif

Matt Ellis scored a pair of goals in the Sabres win (4-2) over the Bruins...... It was Boston's first loss at home since Oct.

I wouldn't expect Chris Butler back in a Pirates uniform anytime soon, but that said Portland needs to find a sturdy puckmoving defenseman besides Gragnani.
