Hey wildcat, I was just curious if you plan to, or have ever asked Darcy about their AHL philosophy regarding veterans. I understand AHL comes 2nd, but, Colorado has already signed 6 AHL players for Lake Erie, Boston has signed 3, the list goes on and on. I mean, I don't see the harm in doing it, even if it is guys who come cheap.

I know from seeing Darcy via television he looks like a dick, is he?

Maybe something you can ask him next time you speak with him.

No, I don't think Darcy is a "dick" -- as you put it. Every time I've spoke with him either by phone or in person he's been great to chat with. I can tell you that his philosophy in the AHL hasn't changed. It's to develop players who will play in the NHL and as soon as they are ready... bring them up. Tyler Ennis and Chris Butler are perfect examples. He isn't going to spend a lot of time grooming a player if he feels they are going to be career minor-leaguers.... look at guys who hadn't received QO's in the last two years in Portland.

Some would argue that Mancari fits that mold, but we'll see where is potential ends up.

When I last spoke to him.... I got the feeling that we may not see any signings by players who are Portland bound until August.... He's not going to pay 150k above for a player to sit in Portland and get caught up in bidding wars. He's going to wait make his offers and players will sign because it's getting close to camp in September and they don't want to be left without a job.

I hope to speak with him again this afternoon.

Haven't heard.... Looks for a potential trade from Buffalo. They have too many center's now with the Niedermayer signing.

Lamoureux signs with Abbotsford

When the Portland Pirates hit the ice in the fall, they will have a new backup goaltender behind Jhonas Enroth as the Grand Folks Herald reported that JP Lamoureux has signed a one-year deal with the Abbotsford Heat, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames.

There is other news too... inculding my conversation with the Sabres Asst. GM Mark Jakubowski.

I don't suppose we could bring Todd Ford back could we? I imagine not, thought he didn't do that bad a job though...

Also, anyone hear if Lamoreux is going to be the primary goalie for Abbotsford?

No word yet on who the back up to Enroth will be.... I assume that Ford and maybe even Beau Erickson could be at camp in Sept.

I suspect that Leland Irving will be the #1 in Abbotsford

That's too bad, was hoping Ford would be possibility. Hopefully we'll hear news of a goalie being signed soon. Would think Erickson would be a good fit as well for the Pirates, especially in a back up capacity where he should get some practice in the net especially if Enroth gets a few callups throughtout the season.
