Anyone starting to get worried about Dineen?
It is kind of odd that he hasn't resigned with Buffalo yet. Aren't all the head coaching jobs set in the NHL now? I doubt he would take a job as an assistant up there over here. |

I doubt he would take a job as an assistant up there over here. Dineen is in Buffalo working with the players... He hasn't re-signed with Buffalo, but they aren't too concerned. Regier has said they are going to wait until all interest has died down -- and taking an assistant job in the NHL is an option -- and they will start talks once that happens.... Realistically, we maybe into August when something is announced. Dineen will be meeting with the media later this week so I'll have more then.... -------------------- |

Rumors are starting to circulate that Dineen may be coaching in Hartford next year, for the CT Whalers.

just like the rumor he was going to be in Columbus this season...... It is confirmed that he will be at Baldwin's "Whalerfest" in August, and may play in the old timers game during "Hockeyfest" so there is information to back up a possible working relationship between Dineen and Baldwin. -------------------- |

Dineen and Baldwin are on good terms. Balwdin is trying like hell to get a team. Having a former Whaler coach a "new" Whaler team would make for alot of publicity and fan interest. -------------------- |

Here's the fact. Dineen is under contract. He's been retained by the Sabres and they are working on a longer term deal. "Kevin (Dineen) remains under contract with the Buffalo Sabres and we hope to have him signed to an extension in the near future," said Sabres Asst. GM Mark Jakubowski when I spoke to him about two weeks ago. The rest is conjecture and it's too early for me..... -------------------- |

But he's free to leave if he gets a better offer ,no? Facts? First of all, there is no Connecticut Whalers, unless the Federal League has put a team in Danbury. Second, as Dineen is under contract to an AHL team, only an NHL coaching job would constitute a "better offer". Third, your fourth "fact" has been just that for years. Fourth, as Baldwin STILL doesn't have a team, saying he'd hire a coach for a non-existent franchise takes "Silly Season" to a whole new level. -------------------- .

Here's the FACT
If Dineen doesn't come back, that means we are really gonna suck and he doesn't want anything to do with it. If he's back, there will be hope that we are not that bad. |

I am sorry but I have heard some outrageous comments in this thread. The only way Dineen is moving on is because of an NHL position. A position in Hartford isn't going to be any more lucrative than Portland. Some people think that Hartford would pay more, no, they get paid by the NHL club, the AHl teams don't hire and fire coaching staff. Dineen loves Portland. THe only thing that will make him leave is the top league of the world. That would make sense. Nothing else right now does to leave Portland. And we have had a bad teams, teams have bad teams all the time, no team is always good. Just becuase a team isn't stacked, doesn't mean the coach just leaves, that makes himself look bad. |

Wouldn't the Rangers have some say in all this?

Wouldn't the Rangers have some say in all this? Maybe they do. The problem is nobody really knows anything until the Baldwin rumors are either confirmed or denied. -------------------- |

What are you people even talking about? The Hartford Whalers are not coming back. The WolfPack are still a team, and are this season. They cannot just start a whole new team when the season is months away. Seriously, is this fake life>?

They cannot just start a whole new team when the season is months away. Seriously, is this fake life>? IF you had bothered to read the Connecticut Whalers thread in the AHL forum you would know what we are talking about, but since you haven't, here are the Cliff Notes for you: It is Rumored that Howard Baldwin is negotiating with MSG to either purchase, or take managerial control of the current Wolf*Pack franchise, and rebrand them as the Connecticut Whalers. The franchise would remain in Hartford and the AHL. The franchise would remain affiliated with the Rangers. The only major changes would be management and or ownership, and of course the team name. So you see Sparkey, it wouldn't be a "new" team, just a rebranded team with new management and or ownership. -------------------- |

WHat I am saying is this: There is no way this will happen in time for this season. Dineen is not moving throughout the AHL either, only place he is going is UP How long did it take ofr the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to become the Ducks? How long did it take the Tampa Bay Devilrays to become the Rays? A name change is not nearly as complex as you might think. As far as Dineen moving nowhere but up, if an NHL club wanted him he'd be gone already, and nobody but Dineen can say whether or not he's considering a lateral move in the AHL. -------------------- |

WHat I am saying is this: There is no way this will happen in time for this season. Dineen is not moving throughout the AHL either, only place he is going is UP Actually.... I think it will happen and it will happen this year. I've been hearing for a couple weeks now that a deal was close and I've heard a presser could be as close as a week away. Dino.... He'll be back for this season unless he's offered an NHL and that's unlikely at this point in the season. -------------------- |
