Kennedy has been awarded a one-year deal @ one million dollars....
I fully expect the Sabres to accept this deal and that should mean the Sabres roster is complete and now any deal they make will effect the Pirates. -------------------- |

Kennedy probably was hoping for more, but, Kennedy really didn't have a good rookie campaign. And honestly, if I was the Sabres, I wouldn't even take that deal. I would sign someone else for 1 or 1.5 that can put up more points.

IMHO they should let him walk away as a UFA and invest the $1M on a vet.

The Sabres can't walk away from this deal.... The CBA says that players who receive less than X dollars (adjusted annually) in arbitration is automatically accepted by the club.
walkaway number for 2010 is $1,570,260. -------------------- |

I was unaware of that provision in the CBA.

They can't afford to keep him at the $1M the arbitrator awarded him, so if he clears waivers they can buy him out and reduce their cap hit. -------------------- |

Umm, so Kennedy is on waivers now... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=329335 You have any idea what they're doing, WC? Because it was below the amount that would have allowed Buffalo to walk away from the arbitration award this is their way of walking away from the salary.... They really didn't want to pay the 1 million because they felt strongly he wasn't worth it. Buffalo didn't like the strong arm tactic from Kennedy or his agent. Lesson... Don't cross the family or else. I suspect he will be claimed... If not, he will get 333k for the next two season from the Sabres. From a Pirates perspective, this really screws things up because it appeared that maybe either Ennis or Gerbe would be back in Portland, but now it looks like both are heading to Buffalo, and the word is both Mancari and Gragnani won't be back so Portland has a lot of holes in the roster and it's August 2nd. -------------------- |

From a roster perspective, there are still a ton of players available that fits the Sabres price range. I don't want Gerbe back. He is a cancer.

Is Kennedy really a softy? I think for a guy his size and it being his first year in the nhl he did alright.

Yes, he is. Playing in the NHL doesn't make you NOT a softy.

He doesn't go into the corners, and when he did last year vs. Boston in the playoffs, he got destroyed by Mark Recchi (almost double his age), and led to a HUGE Boston goal. He never went into the corners in Portland, and is picked on a fair amount because he is an easy target.

I agree with all that stuff but I guess I blame it on his size and age . I think he still can improve it was his rookie year. Mark is double his age but he also has double the experience. For a million Tim will be a quality 3rd or 4th liner for some team.

I will never call Kennedy soft. He's anything but... especially if he can take a two handed stick to the mouth, get himself off the ice, eat from a straw for two weeks and make it back as a productive member of the team. His time in Buffalo wasn't terrible... I watched him in more than enough games and he was willing to play a physical role in front of the net. Remember, he played center most of the time which is not his natural position.

Lesson... Don't cross the family or else. That seems to be the moral of the story... Accept what we give you or we'll make your time here very difficult... best of luck in europe you softy! I really, really hope you gest... After taking that baseball swing from Gabe Gauthier he proved he's got the guts after returning to the ice later within a few days... -------------------- |

I know that was a tough thing to come back from I get it. But the other part of the game of hockey, going into the corners, getting in front of the net/traffic, playing the body...he cannot do any of that. I am sorry. |
